Youngmasters Gala Concert is traditionally the most festive among the Festival’s concerts.
This year’s Gala concert will be held on Friday, August 25, at 8 p.m. in the Knights’ Hall of the Posavje Museum in Brežice (Slovenia). This is the first of the festival’s events that is located outside the borders of Croatia, which aims to celebrate this year’s accession of the Republic of Croatia to the Schengen area – an event that is extremely important for Croatia, but especially for Samobor as a border town, in a practical and cultural sense.
At the concert, an attractive and diverse program of classical music will be performed by esteemed artists of international reputation and lecturers of the Youngmasters Summer School: pianists Aljoša Jurinić and Nataša Milić, cellist Gal Faganel, flautist Marko Zupan, clarinetist Mihael Paar, guitarist Lovro Peretić, violinist Marco Graziani. The musicians will present themselves with solo and joint performances. Among the chamber performances we highlight the performances of soprano Josipa Gvozdanić & Guitar Trio Escualo and Youngmasters Cello Ensemble.
The crown of the concert will be the performance of the Festival Chamber Orchestra under the direction of maestro Davor Kelić. Last year’s founding of this ensemble is the result of long-term nurturing of group music at the Youngmasters summer school. The members of the orchestra are excellent young string players, participants of the Summer School. They will be joined by several professional musicians and two promising young soloists, selected for this occasion from among the many years of participants. The young baritone from Samobor, Martin Rogan, performs two numbers from Mozart’s opera Don Giovanni: the aria Deh vieni alla finestra and the duet La ci darem la mano, which he will sing with the soprano Ana Zebić Kostel. The second soloist is a young pianist from Zagreb, Iskra Silvestri Valdevit, who will play the second movement of Shostakovich’s Piano Concerto, op 102.
The Knight’s Hall, painted with baroque frescoes, is a unique space in Slovenia and beyond. Walls painted with motifs from Greco-Roman mythology combined with musical scenes will create a coherent cultural experience for visitors, which you certainly do not want to miss.
