Saturday, August 27th, at beautiful Casltle Kiepach (OC Lug) Filip Merčeš is going to play at 8 pm.
Filip Merčep (Samobor, 1991) distinguished himself in the music scene thanks to his performance with The ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by C. Meister in the finals of Eurovision Young Musicians in 2010. The event, after which he gained the attention of the public as well as of the music experts, took place in front of Rathaus in Vienna and was attended by 45 thousand people. He graduated with honours in percussions from the Academy of Music in Zagreb with Prof. I. Lešnik on the recital which consists of contemporary composers’ works in 2015. He has been present in the Croatian music scene since he was a student and has thereby performed at almost every prominent festival (Dubrovnik Summer Festival, Osor Musical Evenings, Music Biennale Zagreb, the Zadar Summer Theatre Festival, Šibenik Summer Festival, Split Summer Festival). He has made solo appearances with most of Croatian orchestras (Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra, Croatian Radiotelevision Symphony Orchestra, Croatian Armed Forces’ Orchestra) and has received numerous awards such as Ivo Vuljević Award of Croatian Musical Youth for the best young musician, Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra Award, City of Samobor Award, Yamaha scolarship Award and Porin in the category “best interpretation of classical music”. Filip has also performed on the Bad Ragaz Festival of Chamber Music in Switzerland and on Molyvos International Music Festival in Greece. He is a member of Sudar Percussion Ensamble with which he recorded the album Eat Suit as well as of the Marimba Quartet with Katarzyna Mycka who was his first marimba role model and is now his colleague and mentor. Promoting Croatian music plays an important role in his career. Filip was awarded the Rector’s Award of the University of Zagreb for his interpretation of Concert for percussions and orchestra by Igor Lešnik and Franz Cibulka with Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra in Concert Hall Vatroslav Lisinski and Concert for Xylophone and String orchestra by Boris Papandopulo with Croatian Radiotelevision Symphony Orchestra.
