Even though this is our tenth jubilee, this year’s Festival is full of firsts! Youngmasters is visiting Varaždin for the first time tonight to host a concert of Duo Mono – a duo founded in 2017 by Italian guitarist Giuseppe Molino and Polish guitarist Anna Krystyna Nowicka. Their amazing performance at the Ida Presti competition secured them the second prize as well as this prize recital. Their concert will start at 19:30 at will be held in the Concert hall of the Varaždin school of Music.
Their contact dates back to 2010 when they met at a seminar hosted by Domenico Ascione at the Conservatory of Santa Cecilia in Rome. Individually built guitarists with success at international competitions joined forces in an artistic vision based on an interpretive exploration of opera and instrumental works by Italian and Polish composers. Their goal was to expand the repertoire for the guitar duo, to which they also contribute with their own transcriptions. Among the numerous performances, the one in front of the Roman Auditorium of Santa Cecilia stands out, where they performed their own transcriptions of Rossini’s overtures. Their recent successes include first prizes in the chamber music category at competitions in Italy: the 18th International Competition in Caserta and the 28th Ibla Grand Prize. In April 2020, they launched the international online music project # Vivaldi93vsCovid19 promoting the solidarity and unity of musicians during the coronavirus pandemic around the world.
Tonight the audience will enjoy them playing pieces written by Polish composer M. Pasieczny, an Italian composer who has tried many genres and styles – M. Castelnuovo-Tedesco, one of the most important opera composers of the first half of the 19th century G. Rossini, composer and piano virtuoso F. Chopin, the founder of modern Spanish romantic music I. Albeniz and lastly M. de Falla.
